Rev. Fred L. Shuttelsworth

Posted by Unknown Wednesday, October 5, 2011

While the death of Steve Jobs may be major news across the world, within the community, I serve the death of Rev. Fred L. Shuttlesworth has greater significance. Rev. Shuttlesworth was the soul of the Civil Rights movement. He commanded the attention of the white and black community. Through the force of his personality and the conviction of his faith, he stood up to Bull Connor and the racism of his day that fostered a segregated society. He was a preached who merged word and deed in an undistinguished matrix of social justice. He may not have changed the world through technology as Steve Jobs did. He changed the world by speaking truth to power.
