Justice's Drum Major

Posted by Unknown Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Today is the actual birthday of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was an amazing man who transformed a movement into an international witness of people for freedom. By all accounts he was a "Drum Major" for justice. Clearly the times were ripe for a charismatic leader to step up to the plate of national prominence. He earned his stripes in the crucible of the struggle. He borne the marks of brutality, jailing, and even a stabbing. His home was bombed, his family threatened, and eventually he was killed. His time in the public arena was short. But his effect on humanity will have a long lasting effect. He lived scripture such that while his sermons were filled with loftily rhetoric; his determined  walk with Jesus Christ was authentic and profound. I was fortunate to experience his effect on America. I was blessed to be a witness to his journey. Now I know that only what you do for Christ will last. The words of the Prophet Amos he would preach till ring true, "But let justice run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream." Amos 5:24 (KJV)
