Gil Scott Heron

Posted by Unknown Saturday, May 28, 2011

Brother Gil Scott Heron joins our celestial angels. He possessed a tremendous spirit and was a creative genius. I remember when he released his book, "The Vulture", while at Johns Hopkins in the 70's. He brought his band later that year to then CCB for a concert. There were about 60 of us in the audience, but he played like he was in a stadium. After that he exploded on the scene with theme conscious music that shaped a generation of activists. I went to see him a few years ago at Blue's Alley in Washington. His body was weakened, but the same spirit of resistant and poetic pride was still there. He was correct. "The Revolution will not be televised," nevertheless, the revolution will go on.
