"Do you understand what you are reading?" Acts 8:30

After more than 30 years of seriously studying the Bible, being instructed by some of the finest theologians in the world, and earning two terminal degrees in Biblical studies; I still ask myself the question, "do you understand what you are reading?"

David declared that God word, "is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path."

Indeed understanding the Bible you read means that you allow the transformational nature of the Holy Spirit to mold you into a reflection of God's child. It provides for you checks and balances for your living. It compels you to stand up for Jesus everywhere you go.

Understanding what you read means that your life's story is contained therein and one possess the ability to end their life's story according to God's plans. But first, you need to understand God's plan for your life. True study of the Holy Scripture and its understanding helps you write your manifesto for life.

Yes, scripture does indicate that you need a preacher to assist in your understanding. My suggestion is that you learn from and learn with a preacher who is constantly engaged in the study of God's word. The truths are some profound and the meanings are so deep that it is impossible to understand it all without a disciplined prayer and bible reading life.

The good news is what the old folks use to say, "you will understand it better by and by!"
